Aleksander Wiecki is a co-founder of IVF Media Ltd. and one of the longest-serving patient-side voices in European fertility care. Since 2008 he has led marketing and patient experience for IVF clinics and genetic laboratories across Europe, and since 2012 he has shaped how IVF Media’s educational websites explain treatment abroad to the people about to pay for it. He is Vice-Chair of the European Fertility Society, chairs its Cross Border Reproductive Care Committee, and is a member of ESHRE.
His starting point is a simple observation from inside the industry: clinics and patients rarely speak the same language. Clinics describe programmes; patients want to know whether the success rate on the website means what it appears to mean, what the final invoice will look like, and what happens if the law in the destination country differs from the law at home. Aleksander spent his early career on the clinic side of that conversation, which is exactly why he chose to spend the rest of it on the patient side.
That conviction led him and Jakub Dejewski to build IVF Media – today a network of 11 websites in five languages, among them EggDonationFriends, Fertility Clinics Abroad, Fertility Road and WhereIVF, with German, French, Italian and Polish editions. Each is built on the same rule: give patients verifiable facts and figures rather than reassurance.
The same instinct drove #StrongerTogether, an initiative he and Jakub launched in April 2020 when clinics across Europe suspended treatment and patients were left mid-cycle with no one to call. By December 2020 it had become the European Fertility Society, an evidence-based body offering education and support to people in treatment. Within the Society, Aleksander’s committee focuses on the fastest-growing and least-protected group of fertility patients – those crossing a border for IVF, egg or embryo donation, who need clear guidance on legislation, safety, costs and standards of care in a foreign system.
He contributes to IVF Media’s original research on treatment abroad, including a 2024 survey of 1,189 prospective cross-border patients, and to the IVF Abroad Patient’s Guide, updated every year and covering 11 countries. He also presents regular patient webinars – on choosing a clinic abroad, comparing destinations, reading success-rate data critically and treatment safety – and speaks at ESHRE meetings and the Fertility Show in London. Whatever the venue, his talks circle back to the questions patients actually bring: how to tell a safe clinic from a well-marketed one, and what to check before signing.
