Valerie Shaikly graduated with a degree in Biology in 1990 and began her embryology training under the mentorship of Lord Winston. Since then, she has gone on to earn a Master’s in Health Promotion, a PhD in Reproductive Immunology, and multiple fellowships—including with the Royal College of Pathologists, the Academy of Healthcare Science, and the Institute of Biomedical Scientists. Valerie is registered as a Consultant Clinical Scientist, specialising in genomic medicine within reproductive science.

A strong advocate for education and training in embryology, Valerie has held numerous leadership and teaching roles. She is a former Chair and panel examiner for reproductive science at the Royal College of Pathologists, an assessor for the Academy for Healthcare Science, and a guest lecturer for the Scientist Training Programme (STP) at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Valerie currently serves as Training Lead for ARCS (Association of Reproductive Clinical Scientists) support staff, Chair of the ARCS Continuing Professional Development Committee, and Co-Chair of the ARCS Education Committee.

In her current work, Valerie collaborates with IVF providers and their patients to support informed decision-making around genetic testing options and fertility treatment pathways, helping to make complex science more accessible and empowering for all.
